In this article I’ve written about two types of bags – reusable shopping bags and reusable produce bags. There’s a difference between the two types.
Shopping bags are reusable bags designed for carrying groceries from a shop. These bags can be
Produce bags, however, are smaller and thinner. They are designed to hold produce – vegetables, fruits, grains, etc. The produce packed in these reusable bags then will go in a shopping bag, with the rest of the groceries.
So, what kind of bag do you need? If you don’t have any of them, I would suggest getting bags of both types. So you can use your produce bags instead of packing produce in single use plastic bags.

Before buying a bag of any kind, pay attention to the size. So you don’t end up with a bag that is too small for your needs.
Material of the Best Shopping Bags and Produce Bags
Shopping bags and totes are made of durable nylon fabric. Some shopping totes are made of durable canvas or string mesh.
Produce bags are made of mesh or cotton knit fabric. In some cases you can choose from transparent or opaque produce bags. Before buying, make sure produce bags are good quality, as well as BPA, lead and mercury free.
Generally, produce and shopping bags are washable in a washing machine. Although, we would recommend to hand wash produce bags to extend their life.
Both produce and shopping bags may bleed color when first washed, so don’t put them in washing machine with light items.
