It’s a tough one…

Because there’s no one purse, that everyone would call the best travel purse ever.

However, if you’re asking me, then my choice is the Travelon Classic Mini.

It’s small. It’s an anti-theft bag. And it has some great organizational features.

How to Choose the Best Travel Purse

1. Types of Travel Purses

There are many types of travel purses.

But if we look at the best travel handbags, these are the most popular ones.

The most popular types of travel purses:

Anti-theft travel purses (e.g., the Travelon Heritage anti-theft travel purse);
Classy-looking leather crossbody bags (e.g., the Estalon leather purse);
Casual & practical crossbody bags (e.g. the NeatPack crossbody);
Compact canvas crossbody bags (e.g., the Vera Bradley Hipster crossbody);
Laptop totes (e.g., the Kenneth Cole Reaction laptop tote).

Most of these bags are versatile, and they can be used not only for travel but also for commute and everyday use.

What is the best travel purse type for you?

It depends on your needs and travel style.

If you want a versatile purse that can be used both as an everyday bag and as a travel purse, choose a practical crossbody bag that can hold all your essentials (e.g., the Vera Bradley Hipster crossbody).

2. The Size Matters!

I like compact travel purses because I carry only the bare minimum.

It’s usually a phone, wallet, collapsible brush, lip balm and lipstick, compact mirror, hair pins and hair ties, Kleenex, a pen and, when needed, a passport. I am carrying this little even when I am traveling. Because the rest usually is sitting in a hotel room.

My favorite compact travel purse is the Travelon Classic Anti-Theft Mini travel purse.

When I need to carry more, I use my NeatPack crossbody bag. It’s roomy yet quite compact.

But what about you?

If you are traveling for work and carry a laptop, choose a purse that has a padded laptop sleeve and multiple interior pockets to organize small electronic devices, gadgets and cables. A useful feature to look for is RFID-blocking card and passport slots.

They will protect your cards and passport from unauthorised scanning and identity theft.

Because, yes, nowadays it’s possible to scan your bank card from a distance as well.

A compact and slim anti-theft crossbody bag.

It’s a versatile handbag — it can be used as an everyday handbag, and also as a small crossbody bag for travel. In fact, if you like to carry on the bare minimum with you, it also might be the best small travel bag for your needs.

This purse is packed with anti-theft features that will keep your belongings safe:

RFID-blocking pocket where you can keep your credit cards and passport;
Slash resistant shoulder straps;
Locking zippers;
Lockdown hardware;
Slash-resistant body panels, side panels and bottom panel.

The Travelon Heritage purse has several pockets.

In the main compartment you’ll find a few slip pockets for cables, phone, pens and other small essentials. There’s a RFID-blocking zippered pocket for credit cards, IDs and passport, and a key clip with LED light. The purse also features a zippered quick access pocket at the front and a zippered pocket at the back.

Despite the compact size, the purse can accommodate an iPad Mini in its main compartment.

The handbag is made of water-resistant cotton polyester blend which is backed by a slash-resistant mesh.

2. Travelon Classic Anti-Theft Mini Crossbody Bag Review

It’s small and it’s one of the best anti theft travel bags.

My personal favorite.

Yes, there are plenty of good Travelon travel purses of different sizes and styles, but these two (Heritage and Classic Mini) are, in my opinion, among the best. Thanks to its safety features, I would also recommend it as the best purse for travel in Europe. Especially in the European capitals where pickpocketing is huge (like Rome, Paris and Madrid).

If you want a small travel shoulder bag with all the anti-theft features, look no further! The Travelon Classic anti-theft mini purse is a tad bit smaller than the Heritage purse, and is packed with anti-theft features. The bag features a slash-resistant body and locking main compartment. The slash-resistant shoulder strap features a large carabiner clip with a safety lock.

The Travelon Classic Mini travel crossbody purse has 4 compartments.

The main compartment is lockable, and features an interior organizer with RFID blocking card and passport slots in the main compartment. As well as there are 2 wall pockets for small items, like, cables, lip balm, etc. You’ll find a removable LED light inside the main compartment. There’s a front zip pocket which is secured by a flap with a snap button closure. There’s also one interior pocket in it.

There are 2 easy access zippered pockets – one on the front, one on the back.

The rear pocket is deep, it runs all the way down the length of the bag.

The Travelon Mini travel purse looks smaller in the picture than it is in reality. It’s still roomy enough.

An iPad Mini will fit in the main compartment. However, it will be a snug fit.

Dimensions: 8.5” x 8.5” x 2” (21.6 x 21.6 x 5 cm).

3. Baggallini Pocket Crossbody Bag and RFID-Protected Wristlet Review

A practical travel purse, one of the best crossbody bags for women.

The Baggallini Crossbody Pocket purse is a compact and practical bag perfect for travel and everyday use.

It is durable, and is made of smooth, lightweight and water resistant nylon material.

The purse has multiple exterior and interior pockets:

Front zippered pocket for your phone;
Front zippered pouch for the items you need a quick access to;
Zippered vertical pocket on the back for additional security;
Main compartment with two elastic loops, a key clip, 5 credit card slots, and a zippered interior pocket.

The Baggallini Pocket purse comes with a zipped RFID wristlet that is attached to the inside of the bag with a detachable strap. Please note, that, unlike the Travelon handbags I’ve reviewed before, this purse doesn’t have slash proof straps or panels.

The Baggallini Pocket purse comes in a variety of colors and patterns.

Dimensions: 8.5” x 8.5” x 2” (21.6 x 21.6 x 5 cm).

4. Baggallini Everywhere RFID Bagg Review

A versatile travel crossbody purse for travel and everyday use.

Just as its name suggest, the Baggallini Everywhere can be taken anywhere – on a commute, on a trip, on a stroll around the city, or day-to-day carry. It’s a good bag that you can rely on, and that’s also what makes it one of the best travel purses you can get right now.

The Baggallini is a quite large and spacious women’s crossbody purse with multiple pockets.

It is made of durable nylon fabric. The material is lightweight and also water resistant. So your belongings will stay safe even if you will get caught in the rain (not in downpour conditions, though). There are plenty of thoughtfully designed pockets and compartments that will hold all of your essentials and help you to stay organized.

There’s a roomy zippered main compartment that will hold a 10” tablet computer with some room to spare. There are also several interior compartments that are ideal for storing small items, such as, cables and make-up. And there’s a large zippered inside pocket along the back side. Above this pocket – 2 elastic loops for pens and pencils.

There are 8 card-sized slots along the front interior and a key fob on a strap.

The Baggallini Everywhere comes with a zipped RFID wristlet.

The wristlet is attached to the inside of the bag with a detachable strap.

There are multiple exterior pockets – a zippered long horizontal pocket, phone-sized zippered pocket and a pocket with a snap button closure. And there are 2 side pockets – a tight open pocket for a phone or sunglasses and zippered side pocket with an elastic pouch inside it. A small narrow water bottle will fit in, but it will be a tight fit. The pocket can’t be zippered when the bottle is placed there. There’s back pocket (with a snap closure and zippered bottom) which can be transformed into a sleeve which goes over the retracted handle of the wheeled suitcase.

Unlike the Travelon handbags I’ve reviewed the Baggallini doesn’t have slash proof straps or panels.

The bag has a roomy zippered main compartment and plenty of pockets:

2 slide-in interior pockets (1 small, 1 larger);

The NeatPack’s back wall is lightly padded which is great if you want to put your tablet in the back Velcro pocket.

What I like the most about this bag, is that it’s very roomy.

It can hold an iPad mini, Amazon Kindle, smartphone, paperback book, wallet and some small everyday essentials. And thanks to the wide and padded shoulder strap, the bag won’t dig in your skin and won’t feel too heavy on your shoulder.

Do you want a bag that isn’t boring?

Then this might be the best travel purse for you.

The Vera Bradley Signature Cotton Hipster purse is the best choice for those ladies who don’t like classy-looking, solid-color purses. I love Vera Bradley products because they are well made, last long and are very colorful. If you are like me, you’ll love this colorful purse right away.

Yes, it’s a fun bag. Yes, it has an eye-catching pattern.

But the Vera Bradley Hipster also has a practical and timeless design.

The bag has a large main compartment with zipper closure. The main compartment is spacious, and features 3 interior slip pockets. There is a quick-access front open slip and zippered pocket, as well as a zippered pocket on the back to keep the valuables and documents close to your body.

The Vera Bradley Hipster is made of durable, quality cotton, and feature sturdy zippers with cute ribbon zipper pulls.

Even though the bag is narrow (depth-wise), there’s plenty of space for a 9.7” iPad, wallet, smartphone, a small make-up bag and some small items, like, cables, collapsible hair brush, a few pens and pencils.

It is not an anti-theft purse, as well as it isn’t water resistant.

Dimensions: 11” x 11” x 1.5” (28 x 28 x 3.8 cm).

This travel tote is functional, so it’s ideal for business travel and work. It has several roomy compartments to help you keep your things organized. Most important feature – the padded laptop sleeve with a Velcro strap. The Kenneth Cole will fit the needs of those who constantly need to carry quite a lot of things, such as a laptop, tablet, notebooks, a couple of books, planner, some toiletries and make-up, office supplies, etc.

The main compartment of the tote has a Velcro secured padded laptop compartment.

It’s big enough to fit in a laptop up to 16”. There is also a large zippered compartment in the middle, another large compartment (without a zipper) and a couple of slip pockets. There’s an outer slip pocket and a larger front pocket with a flap. The front pocket has several small compartments for smaller items, like pens and ID.

As the straps aren’t flat, but rounded, the tote bag will feel heavy on your shoulder.

But that’s to be expected with any bag that can carry a lot of stuff.

This bag is great, as it looks professional yet feminine and stylish.

It is very sturdy and will last long.

It’s roomy without being too bulky.

You can easily place it under a seat on an airplane and have an easy access to all your essentials during the flight.

Dimensions: 17” x 13” x 5” (43 x 33 x 13 cm).
