Radius Toothbrushes: Replaceable Brush Heads Mean Less Waste!

A couple of years ago, when my edges were just getting crispy on my voyage to full-on Crunchy Mama Crazy Land, I started looking at every single personal care item in my cupboard and how to reduce the environmental impact of each and every one.

I started thinking about toothbrushes. You’re supposed to change toothbrushes every 3 months, so, that’s 4 toothbrushes per year that go in the trash. Let’s say you are a loyal toothbrusher for 80 years… that’s more than 300 plastic toothbrushes that aren’t biodegrading in the landfill nearest you.

Well, I wasn’t about to start making my own toothbrushes out of twigs, so I searched for the next best thing. I stumbled upon Radius brand toothbrushes at Choices Supermarket in BC, and have been using them ever since.

Instead of throwing out the entire brush every month, you buy one handle and just change the brush! I’ve had my handle for about 4 years and there’s absolutely no reason I won’t be able to keep using this same handle for years to come.

Price wise, it’s no cheaper than using disposable brushes, it’s about the same: replacement brushes are in 2-packs for around $5-6, and a new toothbrush runs about that price too. Garbage wise, it’s obviously a huge improvement!

Handles are made from flax, wood, even old dollar bills. I actually prefer the shape of the Radius brush head than other brands because it’s larger and cleans more surface area.

Radius products are on sale at Well.ca this week and this is the cheapest I’ve ever seen the replacement heads, so I’m stocking up! In stores, I’ve seen them in Montreal at Tau and Rachelle-Bery locations, Fleur Sauvage (on Monkland) and Avril Supermarché Santé.
