Choosing the best one is a challenging task.
In this article, I have covered all types of diaper bags with pros and cons.
Quick Navigation
Tote diaper bags
Tote type is a combination of both fashion and functionality. It is just like oversized handbags.
They usually come with one long shoulder strap. Some models may have two shorter handle straps.
Some tote bags have additional pockets and space for your mobiles and more.
Some brands, like the Ju-Ju-Be BFF tote bag, come with detachable straps so you can turn it into a backpack or messenger style.
However, it can work well for a quick trip to the supermarket or coffee shop.
Pros
Perfect for short trips.
Large opening.
More options in terms of color, fabric, and style.
Looks like a big stylish handbag rather than a diaper bag.
Cons
Heavy to carry.
Not so dad-friendly.
Weight is imbalanced that leading to unnecessary strain on the shoulders and neck.
Bulky.
Short handles could easily fall off your shoulder while bending.
Little hard to manage while managing your baby.

Backpack diaper bags
A backpack diaper bag looks like a regular backpack but comes with more and more compartments for all the baby stuff, e.g. holds changing pad, wipes, bottle, etc.Â
Few models look like sports backpacks with multiple compartments and pockets rather than a diaper bag.
It also has a large and strong carry handle for when you need to pick it up.
Weight is more evenly distributed and your hands are free to look after your baby while using a backpack.|
It is one of the most popular styles available right now.Â
Additionally, they are dad-friendly and versatile.

Messenger diaper bags
Messenger bags are also known as sling bags or cross-body bags which have one strap and can be carried on the shoulder or across the chest.Â
So your hands are free to look after your baby. Moreover, Messenger-style diaper bags look just like a standard messenger bag. It is very discreet and stylish. Unisex models are also available.
Some models can even fit a laptop. These bags have plenty of pockets to store all of your baby’s stuff and even some sections for storing mobiles and wallets.
Also, it has enough space that makes it easy to find things. You can access it easily.
If you overpacked messenger bag, it may become heavy and harder to carry on just one shoulder.
Pros

Slimmer style than totes and backpacks.

Designed for mom and dad.

Convertible diaper bags
A convertible bag is a combination of all styles rolled into one.
It can be converted into a backpack or messenger bag depending on your needs.
Most of these bags also come with handles for carrying like a briefcase.
Usually, the straps that allow for easy conversion are not the most comfortable for both uses.
Backpack straps can’t convert to shoulder bags, and the thinner straps of a shoulder bag can dig into your shoulders when worn as a backpack.
To be frank, I am not a fan of this style. Because these styles come with straps that can be convertible into other styles.
Proper backpack diaper bag straps will be more comfortable rather than these convertible style straps.
Pros
Versatile.
Practical.
Easily converts to meet the different needs for different parenting adventures.
Different strap options allow for the easy access of a shoulder bag when you need it, or provide the even weight distribution of a backpack that is out of your way.
If you are sharing this bag with your partner, you can each wear it in the way you prefer.
Cons
May not perform each style’s advantages 100% as a bag made just for that style.
Not comfortable using the thinner strap while converting it into a backpack.

Stroller handlebar diaper bag attachments
Some diaper bags come with stroller loops or straps that can be used to hang the bag into your stroller handlebars.
But before buying it, please check with your stroller’s manufacturer whether the handlebar can bear the weight of a diaper bag.
However, when the bag is heavy, the weight might cause the stroller to tip backward.
Many convertible strollers often have a basket underneath the basket.
I would suggest not to hang diaper bags or shopping bags over the handles of the carriage or stroller unless or until it is lightweight.
It is better to use the shopping basket underneath the stroller.
Pros
You don’t have to carry anything separately in your hands.
There is usually a spot for a coffee cup or water bottle, and it is easy to see/grab what your little ones need.
Cons
It is only useful, as long as you are with your stroller.
It is not safe to hang your diaper bag into the stroller handlebar.
Diaper clutch
It is a small, portable bag that usually features a small strap that slips over your wrist. Clutches only fit the bare minimum.
Another minimalist option is a waist bag, also known as a fanny pack or a belt bag. These types of bags go around your waist and are the best hands-free option.
Pros
They have a large enough changing pad with pockets inside that make it easy to organize wipes and diapers.
There is also usually a small pocket for parent essentials like a phone or maybe a tiny wallet.
Perfect for short travel.
Cons
There is no easy way to carry or wear the clutch when you are running around, and storage space is limited.
Usually only fit a couple of diapers and no other essentials such as snacks, bottles, toys, change of clothes.
