2. Osprey Daylite Plus Daypack (click for more details) (see on REI)

A top quality, small travel daypack for hiking.

A great choice for those who are looking for a quality, mid-priced backpack.

Even though it’s positioned as a travel daypack, it’s suitable also for short hikes, since it’s a very lightweight and durable backpack. If you want a cheaper backpack, this might be a really good option.

Osprey makes great backpacks, most of which are rather expensive. Except for the Daylite Plus and a couple others. In this case there is only one big main compartment, a small pocket and two mesh side pockets. And still the back panel of the backpack is padded and feels great on you.

Unlike with more expensive Osprey backpacks, the hip belt of Osprey Daylite isn’t padded. That’s why this backpack is not great for longer hikes or the times when you have to carry heavy loads.

Speaking of the side pockets, they are pretty loose.

So if you’ll be putting a water bottle there, be aware that it may fall out.

How to Find the Best Men’s Daypack for Hiking?

How to find the best daypack for your needs?

Let’s make this super simple.

Generally speaking mostly it’s about these 4 simple things:

1. What Will You Be Using It For?

Short day hikes or longer hikes?

Carrying a lot of gear or only the essentials?

Only on dry and sunny days, or all kind of weather?

This will determine, how big and how durable your bag needs to be.

2. How Often Are You Going to Use It?

If it’s only once in a while, almost any cheap hiking daypack will do.

If you plan to use the daypack often, we would recommend you to invest in a quality day hiking backpack (around 100 USD or so). Because the quality of your backpack matters. Together with your footwear, the backpack is the most important part on your hiking packing list. So that’s why we would not recommend to choose the cheapest backpack.

3. Features and Compartments

What do all the best daypacks for hiking have in common?

They are built to make your hike as enjoyable as possible.

They feature quality suspension systems, ridges for cushioning and breathability, adjustable torso and well-padded, wrap-around hip belts. Even the cheapest ones have features like padded hip belts with zippered pockets, trekking pole attachments and sleeves for water system. Pay attention also to the number of pockets the bag has, especially if you like to be organized — some have only one or two small pockets, while others may have 5+ pockets.

Majority of the best men’s daypacks for hiking have a number of pockets and compartments, so it won’t be a problem to find such a bag.

4. What’s Your Budget?

Decide upon your budget.

And choose the best small daypack that fits into it.

What hiking daypack do you use on your walks? What is the best hiking daypack for men you have tried?
