Okay, I’m just going to say it straight off the bat. As ‘out-and-out’ carry bags go, this one wasn’t my favorite.

True, it covers most bases with a 14-way divider, 10 pockets (8 of which are zipped) and an oval top of just under 10 inches. The stand is much improved from previous Nike golf bags too, and it’s fairly well balanced when standing up.

But, quite simply, it weighs 7 pounds, and I’m not sure it offers enough to compensate for this.

Our Assessment 

When a bag weighs as much as a ship’s anchor, it either needs to blow you away with its features, or offer good value. Or both! Quite simply, this guy just doesn’t quite do that, and I was actually astonished to see it was on sale for as much as $200. I thought I must be missing something!

I’m a fan of their ‘revolving’ double-strap system and the S-curve in the straps is pretty innovative too, but I’d urge you to browse other options first.

Pros

• It’s a hybrid bag, and the dual-durometer base ensures it will fit nicely onto a variety of carts – if that’s your preference
• It has an impressive rain hood, which to me looks bulletproof, never mind waterproof

Cons

• 7 pounds! What were they thinking? Hope you’ve got strong shoulders. Or a cart
• It lacks the creativity and features of its rivals
• The best price I could find was $160, which seems mediocre bang for your buck

Nike Air Hybrid Carry Bag Detailed Review

Weight and Comfort

Coming in at 7 pounds, this bag is very much on the back foot in the weight department.

We appreciate that it’s a hybrid bag of sorts, but anything us mere mortals are expected to carry should really be within the 5.5 lbs range – or at worst 6 lbs.

You’ll feel the difference when you pick it up too, especially when fully loaded with clubs et al.

In fairness, it saves a bit of face with its levels of comfort and padding. In fact, there are three pads for the lower back alone, and these are ventilated.

A good thing too, because we reckon there might otherwise be a bit of perspiration accumulated with this heavy old thing!

Build Quality

I can’t argue with the build quality of the bag – other than the weight (sorry to go on about that!). If 14-way dividers tickle your fancy (just like the Ping Hoofer 14), that box is ticked.

No doubt she’s a looker too, and all three of the available colour combinations actually look really good. Other than the weirdly-protruding handle, it is unquestionably sleek in its design.

And the rain hood – well, the person who designed that clearly must have grown up in an equatorial climate, because there isn’t going to be drop of rain getting through that material. It’s quick and easy to clip onto the four poppers as well.

Any bag that has 10 pockets (8 zippered) is also likely to cater for your storage needs.

The large pocket on the right side is the perfect size for apparel, and the fact that the valuables pocket just adjacent is on the outside of the bag suggests to me they’re pretty confident about the ability of the bag material to deal with rain and water.

Value for Money

Nope, nope, nope. Well, that’s how I felt until I found a marginally better deal of $160 after first being told the price tag on this puppy was $200. But even so, I’m not convinced Nike are in the right ball park here.

It’s definitely not a lemon by any stretch of the imagination, and Nike may argue the virtues of it being a cart bag too. But it’s marked as a carry bag, and we thus have no choice but to compare it to its rivals on the shelf as such.

And our view is that there is better value to be had elsewhere.
