Today we’re featuring Giddi and Jace, the husband and wife team behind @ourhomeonwheels and @confessionsofavanwife. The duo and their one-year-old daughter, Juniper, travel the globe in their sprinter van in search of new adventures. They also build vans at @thevanbuild for other young families who want to follow in their traveling footsteps. We chatted with the couple about their recent trip to Bali, life on the road, traveling with a baby, and more. Read our Q&A below!
Tell us a little bit about you + your family?
We are a family of four: mom, dad, baby, and adorable Klee Kai. We have been living in a self-converted sprinter van for over two years while traveling all over the U.S. and making tons of international trips.
What is life like living on the road and raising your daughter?
This is the only life we’ve been able to experience with her so we don’t really have anything to compare it to. But we love it. We feel like it’s making her very brave. She’s not afraid of change, new things, or new people.
Tell us a little bit about your home on two wheels and where you’re currently living?
We are actually in the process of raffling off our current van and moving into an even smaller sprinter van! We’ve realized we want an even simpler life and we’re minimizing even more, so we are currently in Utah preparing for our new home!
Tell us about your recent trip to Bali and what your favorite sights, foods, and family activities were there?
Bali is by far our favorite country thus far. The food is amazing! We did a lot of eating. We loved visiting the beach everyday, surfing, and riding scooters to all the new places we explored. We visited an elephant sanctuary that was really so beautiful and a very special opportunity.
What tips or advice would you give to other families traveling to Bali?
Just do it! The locals love children! They’re literally obsessed. They just want to love on your kid! It’s a ridiculously kid-friendly country. Everywhere is beautiful. Eat at all of the restaurants. SO MUCH GOOD FOOD.
Where is your next destination or big adventure?
We are off to Norway in August and then probably sticking around Europe for a bit. We are then heading back to Bali in the fall!
What are some of your favorite activities to do together on the road as a family?
This is such a hard question because the location determines the activity. But in general we love to rock climb, paddle board, hike, and chase each other around!
Who or what inspires you?
Our daughter, Juniper. Every new place we visit inspires us to show her even more. During some of the hardest times of travel we look and see just how happy she is and how much she’s already experienced as a one year old.
What advice would you give to other families who want to travel and explore the world with their little ones?
Don’t hold them back because you’re afraid. There is so much your kids deserve to see and experience. The memories of these experiences will last forever!
What is one of your favorite quotes?
“Love is meant to be an adventure.” -Gordon B Hinckley
It’s a super simple quote but has been very powerful in our lives together. Adventure is diversified according to each individual. In our case, adventure in exploring and experiencing what the world has to offer has really helped us create a strong and very unique love that goes across the ocean. We’ve literally experienced our love across the world. Love has been an adventure in so many ways.
Tell us why you love your Junyuan Bags
bag?
It’s so roomy! We can fit all the things we need. There’s enough room for diapers, wipes, toys, camera, and more!
