2018 was a year of the logo, mini bags, and vintage revival. We dove deep into our collective handbag knowledge and combed through sales data for 2018 to come up with this list of 2018’s most popular handbags.
Louis Vuitton Palm Springs
The Monogram logo bags had a big year and so did backpacks. First up on the most popular list of bags for 2018 is this adorable Louis Vuitton Palm Springs backpack bag. Its small size made it great for day-to-day, but we think its real selling point is its black leather straps and trim, which don’t show wear as much as traditional natural Louis Vuitton leather (vachetta leather).
Louis Vuitton Pochette Metis
We’ve sung our praises for the Pochette Metis before… but we just can’t get enough, and neither can our clients. The Pochette Metis is beautiful in all of its materials: Monogram, Reverse Monogram, Monogram Empreinte, but its loved because of how great of an everyday bag it is.
Chanel New Mini Classic Flap
The smallest size of Chanel’s classic collection is the rectangle “New Mini,” which was originally released in 2012. Chanel collector’s quickly caught on to its appeal–its small crossbody size is spacious enough for a phone, keys, a small wallet, lipstick, and more. Chanel only makes a small amount of New Mini bags in black and special colors each season, making them one of the most sough after bags in stores and on the pre-owned market.
Gucci Marmont
Gucci Creative Director Alessandro Michele had another year of amazing sales with Gucci’s hit: the Marmont collection. With chevron quilted leather and a bold metal logo, the Marmont collection have been dubbed a “New Classic” by handbag lovers. The Marmont Flap bag and Marmont Camera bags were two of the most popular bags in the collection.
Gucci GG Supreme Logo Throwbacks
1990s fashion was back in style in 2018. Gucci’s most popular canvas in 2018 was a soft GG Supreme logo canvas, commonly paired with Gucci’s iconic green and red Web stripe. Gucci started digging into their fashion archives to create today’s most popular bags.
Waist Bags
The Gucci GG Marmont belt and Waist Bag (shown below) had a huge year. Not only were they seen on celebrities and fashion bloggers alike, but mainstream fashion fell in love with belt bags too!
Celine Nano
The Celine Nano Luggage has been popular with bag lovers for years, but this year it became even more popular with the departure of Phoebe Philo from Celine. The Nano makes an perfect compact everyday crossbody bag for its deceptively spacious interior!
Prada Cahier
This beautiful Prada Cahier bag is inspired by vintage books. Each Cahier bag has unmistakeable gold metal hardware and a removable strap.
Saint Laurent LouLou
The camera bag had a big year in fashion, but even more popular: the YSL logo monogram bag. While the WOC and the Kate crossbody kept their popular strong all year long, the Saint Laurent LouLou was one of our favorite releases of 2018. With the iconic YSL initials in raised metal on the front, this easy to wear camera bag continues in the vein of classic French style and simplicity while being modern with its chevron leather quilting.
Dior Saddle
In 2018, Dior resurrected the Dior Saddle Bag and give it to every celebrity and fashion blogger they could find. The original Saddle Bag was released in 1999 by John Galliano. In the 90s, the Dior Saddle bag was one of the ultimate 90s accessory after being feature on Sex and the City‘s Carrie Bradshaw on a number of occasions, and ‘It’ girls including Paris Hilton and Beyoncé.
